In the member states of the European Union, more than three million residential buildings per year would have to be renovated by 2033 if a climate-neutral building stock is to be achieved by 2050. This is the conclusion of a recent study by the German market research institute B+L. The replacement of the heating system, insulation measures or the replacement of windows are equally considered as energy-orientated refurbishment.
For the study "Sustainability in the building industry", the institute examined the building stock and the status quo of energy-efficient refurbishment in the European Union. According to the study, 45.8 per cent of the more than 118 million residential buildings in the EU were built before 1970, and another 17.5 per cent in the 1970s.
