In its half-year report, Hornbach has now confirmed and supplemented the figures published in advance in a profit warning in mid-September. The company's sales performance stabilised in the second quarter. Group sales grew by 1.1 per cent in this period (June to August) compared with the same quarter in the previous year. The Hornbach Baumarkt AG subgroup reported sales of EUR 1.5604 bn, an increase of 1.9 per cent. In Germany, DIY sales rose by 0.9 per cent to EUR 755.0 mio, while sales in foreign markets grew by 2.9 per cent to EUR 805.4 million. On a like-for-like basis, the DIY stores increased by 1.0 per cent.
For the first half of the year as a whole, the figures for the DIY business look like this: sales fell by 0.3 per cent to EUR 3.2281 bn. In Germany, there was a minus of 2.4 per cent to EUR 1.5365 bn, while in the other countries there was a plus of 1.8 per cent to EUR 1.6646 bn. On the same store area, sales were down 1.3 per cent.
Online retail (including click & collect) accounted for 13.2 per cent of total sales at the Hornbach Baumarkt subgroup in the first half of 2023/24. This compares with 14.8 per cent in the same period last year. This remains significantly higher than the pre-Covid level of 9.8 per cent in 2019/2020. Compared with the same period last year, online sales in the first half of 2023/24 fell by 11.5 per cent to EUR 425.0 mio.
