Malaysian home improvement retailer Mr. DIY has reportedly kicked off its foray into Poland by opening a logistics centre in the country. Eurobuild Central & Eastern Europe, a real estate media group, reported that the company, which had earlier announced plans to look into Poland, has leased 5 000 m² of space at Hillwood Zgierz I logistic center in Dąbrówka Wielka, central Poland. It further stated that Axi Immo brokered the transaction.
Leo Gan, Mr. DIY’s chief operating officer who has been overseeing business development, retail and warehouse operations, announced last September plans to venture into the "very dynamic, competitive, yet promising market" after visiting the country for a business trip.
At the end of 2023, Magdalena Nazarewicz, who spent a decade at discount clothing and houseware retailer Pepco, was appointed as director of business development for Mr. DIY Poland.
Market research firm IBIS World ranks Poland’s hardware and home improvement industry eighth in Europe, and places its value at EUR 5.8 bn. It pegs the sector’s growth in the market at 6.5 per cent per year on average. However, Home Improvement Report edited by DIY International puts the market volume of Polands DIY market at EUR 7.0 bn.
Mr. DIY has been actively expanding in Europe after establishing its presence in Asia. It is already present in Turkey, which saddles both Asia and Europe, as well as in Spain. It is also eyeing a presence in Greece, Romania and Bulgaria.
