US President Donald Trump's economic policy will also lead to higher prices for consumers in the home improvement industry. US industry expert and former Home Depot manager Jim Inglis warns of this in an interview with the industry service DIY International. “Inflation will be the major economic issue this year,” says Inglis. The effects of the announced tariffs and possible counter-tariffs would affect the industry everywhere. “All tariffs are harmful for the standard of living of all countries and societies. The current administration does not understand this basic economic fact,” says Inglis. Extreme uncertainty currently prevails. “Uncertainty is bad for business.”
When asked whether US companies are taking their new government as an example and not complying with laws and agreements with their European suppliers, for example, Inglis replies: “Please don't confuse U.S. citizens with the actions of the National Government. Trump did not win in a landslide - our country is pretty much divided down the middle in regard to the whole MAGA thing. Most Americans are rational ‘middle of the road’ citizens.”
