The Swedish chain Rusta is starting the spring with a phase of expansion: the discount store has planned to open a total of six new stores. The 220th Rusta store was opened in Upplands-Bro, Sweden, at the beginning of March. Yesterday, 26 March, three more stores followed in Eksjö, Sölvesborg and Ljusdal, Sweden. In April, store openings are planned in Nynäshamn, Sweden, and Bjørkelangen, Norway.

Another location is also planned for Germany this year. The eleventh German Rusta store is to be opened in Dortmund in autumn, as announced by Country Manager Christof Sauck.

According to a press release, these openings are in line with Rusta's revised expansion forecast for the next three years. Accordingly, the discounter is planning to open 50 to 80 new stores, up from the previous target of 40 to 60 stores. Following yesterday's openings, Rusta has a total of 223 stores in the four markets in which the chain operates: Sweden, Norway, Finland and Germany.

"The store openings are a central part of our long-term growth strategy and contribute to strengthening our position as a leading player in the Nordic discount market. The opening in Ljusdal also feels extra special since one of Rusta's founders, Bengt-Olov Forsell, had his roots in the town," says Göran Westerberg, CEO of Rusta.
