With a 14 per cent market share, Fakro today numbers itself among the three biggest manufacturers of roof windows in the world. The group has 1 700 employees and five manufacturing facilities that have a combined production area of 50 000 m². The roof windows are sold throughout the world nowadays, which is reflected in the group’s 70 per cent ratio of exports to total sales.
The majority of sales are effected by authorised dealers. The products are sold through subsidiaries in Poland, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Russia and Ukraine. The list of customers includes DIY retailers like Praktiker and Leroy Merlin. Retailers can also sell the windows as their own private label products. The range of roof windows is complemented by loft ladders.
The roof window range has a great choice of models in store. There are centre-pivot and egress windows, duet and l-shaped windows, as well as pivot-swing systems and emergency-exit windows. Common to all of them is pine as the basic material used for the frames. “The wood is sourced in north-eastern Europe, from regions where reforestation is an important theme,” explains export manager Jacek Kulpa.
Fakro offers six different types of roof window, all made of pine.
A special vacuum process is used to impregnate all profiles against mould and fungal attack before the painting process commences. It is standard practice to coat the glued laminated profiles twice with acrylic paint.
The roof windows are glazed with toughened safety glass and laminated panes. Anti-burglary, sound-insulating and UV non-permeable panes are also available to order, in addition to sound-absorbing, reflective and ornamental versions.
Fakro lays great emphasis on quality control. The company has its own laboratory where more than 70 different tests are carried out. There are four different types of flashing available for installing the roof windows according to the thickness of the roofing material involved.
The programme is rounded off by shade accessories including venetian blinds, roller blinds and pleated blinds.
