Founded as a commercial agency in 1979, the company progressed within ten years to become the partner of large-format marketers. The need for consumer-friendly ranges of antennas and satellite systems in cash and carry stores, hypermarkets and DIY stores was recognised and acted upon straightaway. The company pursued a headlong policy of expansion, which was based on its offer of self-explanatory “all-in-one-box” solutions. It has managed to increase its number of employees more than 50 times over in just 20 years.
The firm conviction expressed at head office in Stapelfeld/Braak, near Hamburg, is that the basis of this success is to be found in SM Electronic’s corporate philosophy, which sees the company not only as a reliable supplier of quality products but also as an intelligent full-service operation that is focused on customers’ specific requirements.
Nothing is left to chance when it comes to marketing management at the point of sale. The space optimisation system developed by the company is designed to allow for clear product presentation in every outlet. The multi-lingual packaging developed in-house offers a uniform POS image, and the use of different colours provides guidance through the various product segments.
The range of products comprises more than 4 000 articles that include equipment and accessories for satellite systems, antennas, audio, video, home movies, brackets and mounts, energy, telephones (including country-specific products for 13 countries), party items, multimedia and car audio.
A new addition to the programme is the DXR 8000 digital satellite receiver, which can be simply upgraded to a digital video recorder by means of a “plug & play” solution. This involves integrating 3.5 inch standard hard disks of 20 – 240 GB from the computer field into the device, so that the capacity of up to 100 hours of video recording can be individually adjusted to meet personal requirements. The device features automatic hard disk recognition and formatting, which is particularly useful when different hard disks are used for movie archives.
Software updates are possible via satellite to ensure that the equipment always remains state-of-the-art.
Dealers are provided with support not only through training for sales staff in all product areas, but also through promotional campaigns, POS schemes, displays and catalogues.
