The bathroom is increasingly turning into the expression of a new culture of enjoyment where the emphasis is on both aesthetics and sensuousness: rain showers, integrated bath/showers, lighting effects, coordinated colours, puristic clarity of line and sculpture-like objects all combine to turn the bathroom into a highly  personal experience. Wellness in the bathroom is more than “just” a whirlpool or a shower panel: wellness is the experience as a whole, influenced by the orchestrated ambience and atmospheric design. Today's collections offer consumers ever more freedom of choice, as well as the opportunity to design their own individual space with matching modular furnishings. Even bathtub panels and shower screens made of glass are available in a wide range of individually coordinated colour variations. The trend is towards elements that can be combined as required, some of which the consumer can select from existing collections where, although the elements may not look the same, they are actually designed to go together.
Enjoyment-enhancing furnishings
More and more manufacturers are taking up the trend towards liveable bathroom furnishings, offering collections that combine the hardness of ceramics and the shiny surfaces of glass washbasins, stainless steel and plastic bathtubs with warm wood panelling. Besides dark wood such as American walnut or Macassar ebony, the trend of the moment is also towards limed oak, cherry or rosewood. Added to this are items of furniture with many extra features like integrated lighting, cosmetic drawers and fronts in wood colourways or trendy finishes. Upholstered stools and benches are also included in the product offer.However, the trend forecasts still expect multimedia diversion even in this island of tranquillity – not only in the shape of lighting installations to transform the water into a blue lagoon or bathe it in the orange light of a tropical sunset, but also by means of flat screens and internet connections designed to make it possible to watch films and communicate from the warm watery depths.

And yet for most of us the bathroom still remains a special place within our own four walls that promises a respite from workaday stress and non-stop bombardment by the media.
