Italian DIY stores recorded a drop in sales of 8.8 per cent in the first six months of 2024 compared with the same period in the previous year. Their combined turnover from January to June 2024 totalled EUR 2.910 bn. Only in April did the figures exceed the same month in the previous year. This is according to the Monitoraggio Giugno 2034 by market research company GfK, published by the Italian industry service 10 Minutes DIY and Garden. Last year, the market grew by 1.3 per cent.
All major product groups were down in the first half of the year. At -23.4 per cent, building materials were hit the hardest. The decline in sanitary ware was 14.0 per cent and 11 per cent in paints, wall and floor coverings. Garden departments sold 9.4 per cent less.
