Key theme is sustainability

Bau 2011 is regarded as the world’s leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems. It will be held at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre from 17 – 22 January 2011. The organisers are expecting more than 1 900 exhibitors from over 40 countries, together with more than 210 000 visitors from about 150 countries. At Bau there will be 180 000 m² of exhibition space for showcasing architecture, materials and systems for industrial, commercial and residential construction, renovation and modernisation, plus interior work. With more than 38 000 planners, the trade fair is recognised as the world’s biggest event for both architects and engineers. The products are structured according to building materials, or by product and theme areas. Forward-looking topics such as “sustainable building” play a major role throughout all the show segments. A great number of events are listed in the supporting programme. These include top-flight forums with experts from all over the world and round off the fair as a whole. In addition, Bau regards itself as an indicator of the internationalisation of the building market as a consequence of the steadily increasing number of international visitors. Heimtextil is considered to be the biggest trade fair for home and contract textiles in the world. It is due to take place from 12 – 15 January 2011 in Frankfurt am Main. In addition to home textiles, this time there will be a special emphasis on wall coverings, which were previously based in Hall 5.1 but are now moving over to Hall 3.1. Other categories to be found at Heimtextil include bed, bath and table displays. Major themes at the fair are contract business and support for the new generation. The important subject of sustainability runs like a thread through all areas of the fair. A system of highlighting sustainable products, as well as exhibitors operating sustainable businesses, has been introduced to help buyers locate them quickly and easily; this information has also been brought together in a special guide. Domotex is scheduled to be held from 15 – 18 January 2011. This event will showcase the international carpet and floor coverings industry on the exhibition site in Hanover. The steadily growing demand for environment-friendly carpets and floor coverings, along with statutory regulations on ecological standards, are presenting companies with a challenging task: to manage a business successfully while still doing justice to the requirement for sustainability.
