Ideal traffic connections

Twelve months after the start of construction work, Hornbach Baumarkt AG opened the group's 157th location in Zwolle, the capital of the Dutch province Overijssel, in mid March 2018. The company, with headquarters in the southern Palatine town of Bornheim has invested around EUR 30 mio in the 14th Hornbach store in the Netherlands. With retail space of a good 15 000 square meters (unweighted), it is the largest DIY and garden store in the province of Overijssel.
"After the openings in Amsterdam and Den Haag last year, we are expanding our branch network in the Netherlands, now targeting a further site which, thanks to its central location and excellent traffic connections, also provides the ideal conditions to fulfil our ambitious growth targets in the long term," explains Wolfger Ketzler, Member of the Management Board at Hornbach Baumarkt AG. Due to the excellent traffic network in the region, Zwolle will also soon be within a reaching distance for visitors from the provinces Gelderland and Flevoland. The Hornbach store lies directly on an exit from motorway 28.
Among the highlights of the store are the bathroom and kitchen centre and the building materials collection warehouse from where customers can directly load heavy and bulky goods straight into their cars or vans. The Hornbach range of products in the Netherlands includes a good 120 000 articles. A major part of this is immediately available at the Zwolle store; additional articles can be ordered through the Hornbach online shop and then collected from the store or delivered to your door.

Assembly service, woodcutting, framing service for pictures and many more services are available to DIYers, keen gardeners and professional customers in Zwolle. Of the 150 employees in the team under store manager Tonnie Balkema, a good 130 were newly employed and trained in recent months at other Hornbach stores.
Even 21 years after the opening of the first store in Zaandam, Hornbach enjoys great popularity amongst Dutch customers. Last year, the company won the "Best DIY store" award in the "Beste Winkelketen van Nederland" customer survey for the twelfth time already. Further expansion is a declared target for the company.
