Dutch DIY market grows only modestly

The Dutch DIY market grew by 1.7 per cent in the first quarter of 2024. This is according to GfK's Total Store Report, as reported by the trade magazine Mix (www.mixonline.nl). Stronger growth was prevented by the second quarter, in which total sector sales fell by 0.3 per cent. The 11 per cent drop in garden product ranges compared to the same period last year had a particularly negative impact here. The situation was even worse in June, when the retailers generated 24.2 per cent less turnover in the garden sector than in June 2023. However, the plumbing sector was also difficult. It did not match the previous year's turnover in either the first or second quarter.
