The Italian DIY market has shrunk slightly in 2024. The sales volume of DIY stores in Italy has decreased by 0.7 per cent to 6.2768 billion euros. This is according to the ‘Monitoraggio GDS Brico & Garden’ study by diyandgarden.com, which is based on data from the market research company GfK.
The main reasons for this are the declines in the three largest product groups, which together account for 40 per cent of DIY sales. Italian DIY stores saw a 4 per cent drop in sales of building materials (14.8 per cent of sales), an 8 per cent drop in the bathroom and plumbing sector (14.7 per cent) and a 5 per cent drop in garden products (10.2 per cent).
The fourth largest product group, paints and floor and wall coverings (8.6 per cent), merely maintained its turnover. Tools and machinery (5.7 per cent) also saw a decline of 1 per cent. It is only in the sixth largest product group, hardware…
