UK operator Kingfisher is Europe’s second largest operator of DIY and home improvement stores, with more than 1 500 stores in eight European countries. Through a joint venture in Turkey, which is 50 per cent owned by Kingfisher subsidiary B&Q and 50 per cent by Turkey’s Koç Holding, the company is also represented on the Asian continent with Koçtas Stores. On the DIY store side with retail space, the Brico Depôt, B&Q, Castorama, Koçtas and Screwfix sales lines were part of the group at the end of 2021.

Here, the Screwfix format deviates from the classic DIY store concept, as it is a small-space concept where the focus is less on a large sales or display area, but rather on a high availability of goods in the on-site warehouse or via online shipping. Meanwhile, Screwfix makes up the bulk of sites in the group, with over 722 stores by the end of 2021 running in the UK and Ireland. While the B&Q line operates in the UK, Castorama stores are found in France and Poland. Brico Dépôt is limited to the French market. At the end of 2021, a total of 1 526 locations were running under the Kingfisher umbrella, as shown on the map.
