The relatively clear concentration of DIY store operators in central Hungary and the capital Budapest is of course due to the comparatively strong economic power of this region. Central Hungary accounts for EUR 65 bn of the country's total GDP of almost EUR 137 bn - almost half (47.6 per cent).
Due to the large population, however, this value is somewhat relativised in terms of the per capita share. In central Hungary, GDP per capita is EUR 21 340. This is considerably more than the national average of just under EUR 14 000, but West Transdanubia (EUR 21 000) and central Transdanubia (EUR 20 000) follow at a very small distance.
Central Hungary and Budapest also stand out in terms of DIY market density – as is often the case: the economically strong capitals often have the most DIY stores, but the fewest in relation to the population.
This is also the case in Hungary. In central Hungary, there are 94 800 inhabitants per DIY store, compared to only 64 400 nationwide.
