The modern house is intelligent, networked and therefore saves energy. This was illustrated at the Light + Building trade fair on numerous stands, in lectures and discussions. From 3 to 8 March 2024, 2,169 exhibitors presented the digital and electrotechnical infrastructure required for this purpose and based on it demonstrated solutions for dynamic power control, energy storage systems and applications for networked security. Growing areas include e-mobility and charging infrastructure as well as solutions and products for decentralised energy supply.

For example, the Bosch Home Comfort Group showed continuous flow heaters, which enable a decentralised hot water supply, and heat pumps, where special emphasis was placed on quiet appliances and efficiency. Renewable energies are the future, according to Bosch Home Comfort.

The company Hepa Solar from Cuxhaven is another example. The company specialises in complete solar power plants, which are characterised by their easy handling: unpack, open and adjust the angle, plug in the socket and done. Carsten Jung of the eponymous industry agency got to know the start-up last year and was immediately enthusiastic about the concept. Together with his team, he coordinates sales activities in Germany. At the Frankfurt trade fair, the company presented a solar tracker that aligns the system with the sun.

Solutions such as the new Home Energy Management System (HEMS), which Schneider Electric presented at the trade fair in a stylised 1970s/80s building, offer further possibilities when integrated into entire systems. At the heart of the solution, the intelligent HEMSlogic Gateway connects power-generating systems with controllable power consumers of a residential building. Using an app, the manufacturer-independent system shows, for example, if there is a surplus, which can then be used to operate the washing machine or charge the electric car. The technology provider also focused on other solutions that can be easily retrofitted. For example, the starter package of hub and thermostat from Wiser could also be installed by a layman and expanded if necessary. By communicating savings potentials and the topic of renovation, the company sees the greatest potential to score points with customers despite increased price sensitivity.
