Retail sales fall throughout Europe

Statisticians reckon on an increase of 1.4 per cent in the EU compared with the previous year, however

The volume of retail trade in the eurozone increased in April as compared to April 2001 by 0.1 per cent. Taking the 15 states of the European Union together, growth of 1.4 per cent was achieved, according to figures from Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. Compared to March 2002, retail sales fell by 0.6 per cent in the eurozone and by 0.1 per cent in the EU15.
