The DIY stores belonging to the German Hornbach Group generated sales of EUR 5.780 bn in the past 2023/2024 financial year (ending 29 February 2024), 1.1 per cent less than in the previous year. Like-for-like and currency-adjusted sales fell by 2.0 per cent. In Germany, net sales fell by 2.6 per cent to EUR 2.787 bn, while they rose by 0.4 per cent to EUR 2.993 bn in the other European national companies. Overall, the foreign share of group sales was 51.8 per cent.
Online sales (including Click & Collect) accounted for 12.7 per cent of total DIY store sales in the financial year. In the previous year, it had stood at 14.1 per cent. Before the pandemic, in the 2019/2020 financial year, it was 9.6 per cent. Compared to the previous year, online sales fell by 11.1 per cent to EUR 732 mio in the 2023/24 financial year.
Hornbach has maintained its market share in Germany at 14.9 per cent. However, the DIY store operator has increased its share in some foreign markets, namely to 36.2 per cent in the Czech Republic (2022: 34.4 per cent), to 27.1 per cent in the Netherlands (2022: 26.1 per cent) and to 13.9 per cent in Switzerland (2022: 13.5 per cent).
As of 29 February 2024, Hornbach operated a total of 171 DIY megastores with garden centres and online shops in nine European countries. In Germany, the physical store network comprises 96 DIY stores and two specialist stores under the Bodenhaus brand. In eight countries in the rest of Europe, there are 73 DIY stores.
