International representatives from the industry will again be coming together in Chicago from 11 to 13 August for one of the most significant fairs in the field of hardware and soft DIY
Each year in August sees executive personnel from the retail trade, merchandising teams and wholesalers/suppliers travel to Chicago for the National Hardware Show, which is held in conjunction with International Hardware Week.
The International Hardware Week is sponsored and organised by the American Hardware Manufacturers Association (AHMA), and offers a broad range of special events and services including the new products display (plus new products online), international visitor and business centre, an address by a prominent speaker, training seminars, opening reception, a reception for overseas visitors, a product and company search service, the international forum and the “store tour”.
Broad spectrum of products
The Hardware Show includes products for building a house, repairing, altering or improving it. McCormick South is divided into five product categories (hardware/related products, sanitary/electrical/heating/air conditioning, paint/decorating, housewares and building materials). The upper level of McCormick North is where all kinds of products for the garden are located, whereas the lower level houses the international pavilions of 24 different countries including France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Slovenia and Spain. Last year 53 310 specialists from the sector attended the Hardware Show to view the products displayed by 3 243 exhibitors. They represented a purchasing power of US $ 178 bn in the retail trade.
Multiplicity of services
The International Business and Visitor Centre offers participants from overseas a broad range of services. Among these are a lounge and meeting area, interpreters, international telecommunication facilities and literature in several languages. This is also where visitors who registered in advance can pick up their export exhibitor directory and other data/documentation.
All overseas participants and export exhibitors are invited to attend the reception for international visitors on 12 August. There is no charge for this event, which offers a great opportunity to get to know colleagues from all over the world and compare notes with them.
The fair offer includes a broad spectrum of products and special services for guests from overseas.
Store Tour
Scheduled to take place again this year within the framework of the International Hardware Week is a tour of leading retailers in America’s hardware and soft DIY sector. Visits will be made to stores in and around Chicago. These include Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Home Depot’s Expo Design Center, Seigle’s, Restoration Hardware, The Container Store, Crate & Barrel and Pottery Barn. What is more, the organisers have succeeded in booking executives from Ace Hardware and the National Retail Hardware Association to address the participants. There will also be the opportunity for participants to join in with discussions on the American retail trade.
