Kingfisher has announced uniformly strong sales growth in all countries for its home improvement operations in the first six months (to 2 August 2003). Sales are up by 11.1 per cent on a constant currency basis over the comparable period in 2002 (15.3 per cent overall) to £ 3.944 bn (€ 5.605 bn), or 5.5 per cent in like-for-like terms. The strongest impulses for growth came from the markets outside the United Kingdom and France, which showed an increase of 36.3 per cent (on a constant currency basis) or 11.1 per cent in comparable terms. The French Brico Dépôt format also shone, with like-for-like growth of 14.1 per cent and sales up by 32.3 per cent overall. By contrast, the main retail channel, Castorama, recorded volume sales of £ 793.6 mio (€ 1.1279 mio), just 2.7 per cent up on the previous year’s figure or 2.0 per cent like-for-like. In the group’s country of origin, the United Kingdom, B&Q was up by 11.2 per cent to £ 2.0571 bn (€ 2.9236 bn), or 4.9 per cent like-for-like.
