Big companies in the American DIY industry make donations to devastated regions; DIY trade itself badly hit

The DIY industry will be suffering the consequences of the severe devastation wreaked by Hurricane Katrina in the southern USA at the end of August for many years to come. Although the DIY trade has previously played a key role in reconstruction when such natural disasters have occurred in the southern United States, it will be difficult to assume this responsibility this time as many DIY stores were themselves completely destroyed.
The two biggest players in the sector, Home Depot and Lowe’s, are offering help in supplying merchandise for reconstruction projects and are also contributing financial aid: Home Depot is giving US $ 1.5 mio to the devastated regions and Lowe’s has pledged US $ 2 mio. Other large companies in the industry will probably follow their example.
The Countries + markets section of DIYglobal plus features a detailed report on the situation in the regions of the southern USA hit by the hurricane (see: Other articles on this topic).
