First DIY Show at Excel

30.05.2007

The DIY & Home Improvement Show, the leading UK trade fair for DIY products, hardware, tools and interior decoration, will take place in London from 21 to 23 January in combination with the Garden Expo

The fair venue is the newly built Excel international exhibition centre, which opened in November. The site is larger and in contrast to Olympia, where the DIY Show has been staged for six years and the Garden Expo for one, all exhibition stands at the new fair ground are accommodated on one level. The overall exhibition area is 12 000 m², and fair director Christopher Leonard-Morgan is pleased that this offers growth potential of 50 per cent for the show.
250 exhibitors are expected at this first sector event of the new year, and visitors will be able to cast an eye over the product ranges of over 300 suppliers in all during the twin DIY Show and Garden Expo fairs. 4 000 visitors to London from over 40 countries were recorded during the four exhibition days last year, 25 per cent up on the previous fair.
Buyers, retailers and wholesale dealers will gain free entry to the forthcoming DIY & Home Improvement Show and Garden Expo. The admission ticket is valid for both events.
4 000 trade visitors came to London for last year’s DIY Show and Garden Expo.
A conference is being organised at Excel on Monday 22 January. Under the title “DIY 2001 – a Retail Odyssey”, this will explore how leading global DIY distribution companies are meeting challenges. George Adams, commercial director of B & Q, John Herbert, managing director of the German Knauber DIY chain and Manfred Kist, vice-president responsible for international development at Truserv, the biggest wholesale cooperative based in Chicago which supplies 8 500 independent stores in 65 countries worldwide, have been persuaded to speak at the conference.
The DIY & Home Improvement Show is being backed for the first time by the UK manufacturers’ association BHHMA (British Hardware & Housewares Manufacturers’ Association).  For association director Allen Johnson, this is evidence of the leading position which the fair has now assumed in the market.
