The German DIY chain Bauhaus is mourning the death of founder Heinz Georg Baus, who has passed away at the age of 82. In 1960 Heinz Georg Baus established the first Bauhaus specialist centre in the city of Mannheim. This is where products for the workshop, house and garden from a variety of ranges were first offered under one roof. The concept fast expanded in Germany, with further centres being opened in neighbouring countries during the 1970s. In Europe Bauhaus now has more than 260 outlets in 19 countries. Baus created the basis for the successful continuation of his life's work early on. The choice of an Austrian family foundation has ensured that the company's independence as a family-owned enterprise is secure in the long term. Baus was laid to rest at a small, private ceremony for close family members.
