The world's largest home centre retailer, Home Depot, is now getting about six per cent of its sales from the Internet. It generated roughly $ 5.58 bn from the web. Home Depot's online sales have more than tripled in five years, according to Internet Retailer, a trade magazine covering online retailing. The company is now the seventh largest online retailer in North America.
Around 45 per cent of online orders are picked up in some of its 2 200 stores. To further boost online sales, Home Depot has now fully implemented a programme it calls Buy Online Deliver From Store, which allows it to pull from store inventories to fulfil online sales. This accomplishes two goals: it speeds delivery to online customers and reduces store inventories.
