The trade fair had originally been scheduled for 7 to 9 August this year. Due to Covid-19, event organisers had then considered a postponement of one month. It would have been the 20th edition of the event, which is considered the largest international trade fair in the hardware industry in the Asia-Pacific region.
The decision to cancel the 2020 event was made due to the measures implemented by China and the government of Shanghai aimed at containing the pandemic. Anyone travelling to China must still go into quarantine for 14 days. In addition, Shanghai is now no longer one of the so-called first entry cities through which foreigners may enter the country.
The dates of the CIHS have been frequently moved around in recent years. From the traditional date in the second half of September, the trade fair moved in 2013 to the end of November for one year, only to be brought forward to September again in the following year. From 2015 to 2017 it took place around 21 October, and ten days earlier in 2018 and 2019.
