Spanish manufacturers in the home improvement sector achieved 20 per cent more sales last year than in 2020 and 25 per cent more than in 2019, with the highest increase, 38 per cent, coming from exports. With regard to domestic figures, sales to DIY store groups saw the strongest growth, up by 18 per cent. The growth in sales to professionals was almost as strong (17 per cent). The online sales channel grew by 13 per cent. Spanish manufacturers sold almost 13 per cent more through traditional specialist dealers, while sales to generalists saw an increase of 6 per cent.
The manufacturers' association AFEB has also calculated the growth rates for 2021 compared to 2019. Here, exports stand out at plus 50 per cent and online sales at plus 45 per cent. Manufacturers made 18 per cent more sales to DIY stores. Sales to other distribution channels increased as follows: professionals plus 22 per cent, traditional specialised trade plus 15 per cent, generalists plus 11 per cent.
