DIY retail area in Germany barely grew in 2022

The retail area of German DIY store operators grew by a total of 0.1 per cent or 17 144 m² in 2022. This is according to figures from the new "Statistics DIY + Garden 2023", which will be published by Dähne Verlag in May. The slight increase was much lower than in previous years such as 2021 and 2020, when the top 20 German DIY store operators expanded their retail area by 49 020 m² (around 0.3 per cent) and 100 843 m² (around 0.7 per cent) respectively. In the last ten years, the total retail area has decreased by around 219 000 m².

As in previous years, the new statistics reliably provide all the key figures on DIY stores and garden centres in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. These include, among other things, detailed figures on retail areas and stores of the retail companies in Germany and abroad.
