The international DIY association Edra/Ghin is being advised by the specialised consultancy firm Ricardo on issues relating to Scope 3 emissions. The aim is to support the association's members, including DIY store operators around the world, in identifying and reducing Scope 3 emissions. Ricardo is a global strategic, environmental and engineering consultancy. Jamie Pitcairn, Ricardo's technical director for corporate sustainability, will lead the initiative.
Edra/Ghin launched a Scope 3 task force together with major home improvement retailers at its 9th Global DIY-Summit in Berlin in June 2023. It was set up to support the industry in reducing its Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, i.e. the emissions generated by retailers' supply chains and the use of products purchased by customers in their homes.
For retailers, Scope 3 emissions account for more than 90 per cent of their total emissions. Given the scale of their impact, they are the most important but also the most difficult emissions to tackle, according to the association.
