The garden market in Germany shrank by 3.2 per cent year-on-year to a volume of EUR 19.7 bn in 2023. Industry expert Klaus Peter Teipel attributes this to the poor general conditions, particularly the bad weather at the start of the season and the negative impact of the political situation on consumer behaviour, he said at an event organised by the garden manufacturers' association IVG.
However, the decline did not affect all product groups. For example, the biological and chemical supplies segment grew by 6.3 per cent. In contrast, sales in the hard goods segments fell by 5.8 per cent. Live greenery also lost 3.2 per cent compared to the previous year.
