The flood disaster in south-eastern Spain and particularly in the Valencia region has also had a severe impact on the Spanish hardware and DIY sector. Among other things, the store of the German DIY store chain Bauhaus in Alfafar, south of Valencia, was flooded. According to the Spanish online service C de Comunicación, employees are currently in the process of clearing the mud and repairing the damage. However, Bauhaus has also started to support victims of the storm, giving them a 20 per cent discount on materials for reconstruction.
The Coinfer cooperative, which includes 30 hardware stores, reports that ten of its stores have been completely flooded. The cooperative is working to supply its members with materials. At the same time, it is supplying materials to affected communities and the army, writes C de Comunicación. Suppliers are providing support for this very quickly.
The Txema Elorza Foundation, which works in the hardware industry, has also initiated relief efforts. As a first step, it has set up an online registration system where those affected in the industry can report their losses, and has set up its own donation account. In addition, the foundation appeals to the solidarity of all those who can help the affected companies with financial contributions for the employees in the sector and with materials, the financing of purchases, payment deferrals and similar.
Our colleagues from C de Comunicación are providing continuous updates on the consequences of the flooding for the industry.
