The German DIY store operator Hellweg and the trade co-operation Hagebau deny a press report that Hellweg is exploring "slipping under the umbrella of the DIY store co-operation Hagebau". Both companies state that there are no such talks.

Hellweg operates 88 stores under this brand in Germany and seven in Austria, as well as 53 stores under the Baywa Bau und Garten brand in Germany. The company is in ninth place in the sales ranking of German DIY store groups.  According to the company, net sales in 2023 totalled around 714 million euros.

There have been repeated speculations about Hellweg in the German market. Last year, Hellweg held talks with its competitor Toom, which belongs to the Rewe retail group. Both companies worked together in the purchasing company DIY-Union, but ended this cooperation on 31 December 2024.
