As the name suggests, Chung Cheng Scissors has specialised in the manufacture and sale of shears. The company, which was founded in 1958, has its headquarters in Changua, Taiwan, and is today managed by the second generation of the Liu family. It originally started life producing cast-iron scissors for the tailoring trade. Now for the last 25 years it has been producing garden shears, adding irrigation items to the programme more than three years ago already. The range of cutting tools includes pruning and grass shears, some with telescopic arms, ratchet shears, all-purpose and lopping shears, as well as a range of tree pruners and saws with a feature to hold the branch after it has been cut off. These products are marketed under the Tiger brand name, with the majority of them going for export to Japan. Chung Cheng has not been represented by its own brand in Europe so far, though most certainly by its products. As managing director Ralph Liu explains, that is because the company supplies Obi and B&Q, among others, with own labels.Currently the shears specialist is exporting around 40 per cent of its production to Japan and 20 per cent goes to Europe, specially to Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Russia. Annual turnover amounts to approximately US $ 5 mio, of which 70 per cent is achieved through trading brands and 30 per cent with the Tiger brand. In addition to its assortment of garden shears the company also offers a programme of irrigating products. This includes a double hose reel with a 15 m multifunctional hose that can be used from both sides. Consequently you can connect a hand sprayer to one side, for example, and one of Chung Cheng's sprinkler models to the other side. One of these is the patented “UFO Sprinkler”, which features 360 degree rotation and individually adjustable sprinkler speed. Currently production takes place exclusively in Taiwan. However, the Liu family intends to expand still further and has plans for a second production location, which is to be sited in China. What is more, the company wants to add garden furniture to its product range in the future.
