31.05.2002

Currently there are different accounting systems in use on opposite sides of the English Channel: the published sales figures are out of line

Key corporate figures that deviate from each other have been published by Castorama and Kingfisher for the first quarter of 2002. According to Kingfisher’s account, group sales in Britain grew by 18.9 per cent, or 5.9 per cent like-for-like. Kingfisher indicates 5.6 per cent as the rate of increase in France, or 2.1 per cent in like-for-like terms.
In contrast, Castorama puts a figure of € 1.540 bn on the volume of business in Britain, which corresponds to growth of 21.4 per cent and 5.6 per cent like-for-like. According to these figures, sales of € 754.8 mio were achieved in France, amounting to eight per cent (or 2.1 per cent on comparable areas) more than in the same period last year. Sales in the other countries are given as € 365.1 mio; the increase comes to 36.9 per cent, and ten per cent like-for-like. Kingfisher distanced itself from the Castorama figures immediately upon their publication.
