Only one Bauhaus outlet so far

Since 1997 Bauhaus has had just the one Home Store in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, which was extended in 1999 and now offers shoppers a retail area of around 8 600 m² plus a small garden centre as well.
Located to the east of the city in a very busy retail park with a great number of specialist stores and entertainment venues, the store offers an image that is more than comparable with other outlets in Europe. The classic Bauhaus diversity in both product ranges and presentation can also be found here. Only at a second glance is it obvious where the preferences of Slovenian DIYers seem to lie: articles belonging to the decorative segment, which include handicraft supplies, fabrics or picture frames, are as scarce as heavy building materials. The dominant feature is the supply of products for the initial furnishing of newly acquired flats or houses, and for renovations. Added to this is the fact that many Slovenians still lack the courage to try something new.
Clear merchandising despite the big range of products.
The area of garden products plays a major role, since many households have a holiday cottage or spend their weekends out of doors.
The generous law regulating shop opening hours makes it possible for the Bauhaus Home Store, along with others, only to remain closed on a whole four days of the year. Otherwise opening hours are from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day apart from Sundays, when they are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Little is known about any further expansion for Bauhaus in Slovenia, though Samo Kupljen, managing director of Bauhaus Slovenia, explains that there are anyhow no more than four or five towns that are big enough and so of interest for possible outlets.
