Retail division of the building materials cooperative group notches up a 0.5 per cent increase in Germany

Hagebau stores in Germany increased their sales by 0.5 per cent in the first five months of 2004. At the end of April the retail division of the cooperative group was showing an increase of 3 per cent, but sales suffered as a result of the poor weather in May.
Between January and May Hagebau achieved a total of € 1.25 bn in centrally invoiced sales, an increase of twelve per cent over the comparable figure for last year. The German market accounted for € 1.12 bn of this. The increase of 11.9 per cent was derived above all from the building materials and timber trade, which increased by 13.7 per cent. Central sales in Austria amounted to € 128 mio, 12.6 per cent up on the same period in the previous year. The building materials trade recorded a decrease of 12.8 per cent, but retail sales turnover was up by 82.3 per cent. However, Hagebau stresses that comparison with 2003 is only possible to a limited extent on account of changes in the group of proprietors.
As announced at the cooperative’s proprietors’ meeting in Hamburg, the successor to managing director Hans-Joachim Hoewner is now known. Frank Stuhldreier (42) will take over this post on 1 January 2005. To ensure a smooth transition, he will start to familiarize himself with his new responsibilities on 1 September. Stuhldreier was previously head of the sales systems and services division at Nord-West AG.
