"This year we have a strong growth with two digits, but is more powerful than in 2016," declared Lamy without specifying the exact numbers. "The growth was due to a good context: a DIY market in progress, the fall of VAT and the increase of the salaries, measures that led to the increase of consumption," declared Lamy.
In addition, the company announced a new store in the capital of Bucharest in the Theodor Pallady area in the east of the city. The opening is planned for 2019.
"After the Baumax stores' integration in the business culture and philosophy of Leroy Merlin, we said that the expansion plans in Romania will not stop here. From then, we already opened a new store at Oradea, we plan the opening of a new store in Craiova and we announce the concrete plans for a new store in Bucharest, the third in this city," declared Lamy.
Even if initially the BauMax store in Craiova had not entered into the retailer's plans to be transformed into a new Leroy Merlin unit, for business reasons and to protect the investment in the store already opened in the same city, the one from Electroputere Mall, the retailer returned to its decision, and in 2018 the Baumax store will be transformed into a new Leroy Merlin unit."We are now very satisfied by the performance of the store in Craiova and this determined us to open a second store in this city. The store will be opened in the first half of the next year," declared Lamy.
Leroy Merlin currently operates 16 stores in Romania.
