Global DIY-Lifetime Award 2022 for John Herbert

John Herbert will receive the Global DIY-Lifetime Award 2022. The general secretary of the international DIY association Edra/Ghin will receive the award at a gala dinner at the Global DIY-Summit in Copenhagen on 9 June 2022. This was decided by the boards of the European DIY Retail Association (Edra) and the Home Improvement Manufacturers Association (Hima), which present the award.

"I am honoured to receive this great accolade at the reunion of the industry after two difficult years of not meeting face-to-face," said the award winner. Edra president and Obi CEO Sergio Giroldi highlighted, "John’s contribution to the industry is incomparable and I really appreciate his dedication in bringing together the international community of home improvement." Reinhard Wolff, president of Hima, described Herbert as "an inspiring person" and highlighted his confidence and dynamism – "all with his incomparable British humour".

John Herbert has been in retail since 1956, and in the DIY industry since 1983. He was managing director of Knauber until 2000, after which he went to the USA as president of the Home Depot Expo Design Center for the West Coast. From 2002 to 2004, he was managing director of the German DIY retail association BHB and has since headed Edra, which he initiated and expanded internationally in 2015 by founding the Global Home Improvement Network (Ghin). The association has been decisively shaped by "the great communicator", as DIY International magazine has written.
