The Global Home Improvement Network (GHIN) has its first member in China.
Orderbid Home Improvement (Orderbid HI) is a chain of small and medium-sized
hardware stores that operate as neighbourhood stores in Chinese cities. With
more than 600 branches, Orderbid HI claims to be the largest hardware chain
in the country. The product range includes hardware, electrical goods and
appliances, building materials, paints, tools, lighting, plumbing and
agricultural equipment. Customers with needs in the areas of home
improvement, renovation and maintenance are the main target groups. Other
services include a tool hire service.
The company emphasises that it is interested in a strategic partnership with
home improvement retailers in other countries in order to further develop
the large Chinese market. "The Chinese home improvement market is a
particularly interesting case, and Orderbid Home Improvement has developed
in such a way as to ensure it is best suited to deliver to customers'
desires and needs," says John Herbert, general secretary of EDRA, the
European trade association of which GHIN is a member. "Local hardware stores
built around community spirit have an essential role to play in successful
retailing landscapes."
GHIN is an international association that aims to promote exchange among
home improvement retailers worldwide.
