The six largest DIY store operators in Germany closed 2024 with a minus of 1.5 per cent. This is according to the new Baumarkt + Garten 2025 statistics, which will be published by Dähne Verlag in May. At the end of 2024, the companies' combined sales in Germany totalled EUR 19.533 bn.

Germany's largest DIY chain Bauhaus was the only one to achieve a minimal increase of 0.8 per cent to EUR 4,440 mio. All other major operators effectively stagnated or were in the red. Obi, the number two in Germany, achieved stagnation with plus-minus 0.0 per cent at EUR 4,189 mio. Hornbach recorded a minus of 3.1 per cent, followed by Rewe with its Toom Baumarkt, B1-Discount-Baumarkt and Klee Gartencenter sales divisions with a minus of 1.5 per cent, Hagebau's retail business recorded a minus of 5.1 per cent and Globus Baumarkt closed with a minus of 2.3 per cent. All figures refer to non-adjusted sales.

According to the preliminary analysis by the research department of diy Fachmagazin, the majority of the remaining top 20 DIY store operators in Germany were also in the red in 2024. Business was slightly better than in Germany for the top 6 DIY store operators in Germany in 2024 abroad, where they generated a small increase in sales on average.
As in previous years, the new Baumarkt + Garten statistics, which will be published in May 2025, reliably provide all the key figures on DIY and home improvement stores and garden centres in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. These include detailed figures on sales areas and locations of retail companies in Germany and abroad.
