The British DIY chain Wickes almost maintained its turnover in 2023. According to a trading update from the company, sales were down 0.3 per cent on the previous year. An increase of 0.1 per cent was reported for the core segment covering trade sales and sales in the DIY segment. In contrast, the do-it-for-me (DIFM) segment fell short of the 2022 target by 1.7 per cent.
These two segments developed very differently in the fourth quarter. The core segment grew by 1.2 per cent, while DIFM slumped by 13.7 per cent. With regard to the core segment, the trading statement states that the professional segment grew by 18 per cent to GBP 881 million (EUR 1.033 bn) in the fourth quarter, while the DIY segment was slightly down on the previous year.
