In 2023, the British DIY chain Wickes almost maintained its turnover from the previous year. The volume of GBP 1.5538 bn (EUR 1.8192 bn) is 0.3 per cent below the previous year's figure. Like-for-like sales also fell by 0.3 per cent.
The individual segments developed very differently. The professional segment Trade Pro, for example, grew by 11 per cent and the number of participants in its customer loyalty programme increased by 19 per cent to 881 000.
According to the company, it continues to invest in low-cost, right-sized stores. Last year, it converted eleven stores to this format, which now accounts for 77 per cent of the store portfolio. The company states that the "carefully curated" range is limited to around 9 000 SKUs. It also reported that the modernisation programme has increased the efficiency of the multi-channel business. Wickes has additionally opened three new stores.
The company has succeeded in attracting younger target groups and women as customers. The proportion of female customers has risen from 16 per cent in 2019 to 27 per cent.
